Colorado Cattle Herd's Lazy Summer

This is "Lazy Summer," an 18 x 11 inch oil on canvas. The background is done entirely with palette knife, a technique I've been experimenting with for several years. I believe it gives it a rich texture, something I am always conscious of when painting. The scene is based on a photo taken many years ago at our northeastern Colorado ranch. When it's hot and the flies are buzzing, cattle bunch together to swat their tormenters more effectively. Check back here to get painting tips and see my newest work. Welcome! I am a Castle Rock, Colorado fine artist and oil painter. Most of my work is inspired by my country roots but you will also fine abstract work in my gallery. Click the gallery button to view more or make a purchase. Contact me for a one-of-a-kind commissioned work.

Just a little bit about me. I was raised on a ranch in northeastern Colorado and lived there until I graduated high school. A country childhood was, for me, the very best way to grow up. I gained a true appreciation for nature, a strong work ethic and a love of the outdoors. These characteristics have followed me and guided me wherever I have gone.

After high school, I earned my Associate degree in fine art from Northeastern Junior College in Sterling, CO. I transferred to Chadron State College in Chadron, NE where I earned two degrees, a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design and a Bachelor of Science in Art Education.

While in Chadron I met Cody Wilder, the woman who would be my wife and the future mother of my two boys. We left Chadron and moved to Gillette, WY and lived there for seven years while I pursued my career in graphic design. In 2010 we moved to Castle Rock, CO where I currently paint and run my freelance graphic design business www.jagimages.biz. I will be instructing art classes at the PACE center in Parker, CO this summer. Click here to sign up!

In addition to my love of art, I also enjoy playing guitar and writing songs with my brother. Some samples of those songs can be found at www.myhillbillyjunction.com. My family and I enjoy the outdoors in Castle Rock very much. We love to hike and spend time in Castlewood Canyon.
